A Nine year old boy, Tristan Charlton Dunsford, was found dead in Little Grand Rapids First Nation, located about 300 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Second degree murder charges have been laid on a 16 year old boy from the same reserve. 1100 band members live on that reserve and, in such a small community, I am sure all of them are being affected in some way by this tragic story. President George Bush has signed a $162B war spending bill. The money is to be used to fund the ongoing fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. “This bill shows the American people that even in an election year, Republicans and Democrats can come together to stand behind our troops and their families.”, Bush says. During a military shooting demonstration show in the Laperrine military barracks in southern France, 17 were injured including a 3 year old boy. Apparently, instead of blanks being fired it was real bullets come out of one of the soldier’s weapon. The demonstration show was supposed to be intended as a thank you to the community. The massive earthquake that devastated China and left almost 70,000 people dead has also opened the public’s eye to the current building standards of the country. Many of the buildings should not have tumbled over so quickly. And, this includes many schools. In Randolph, Vermont, a memorial took place for the community after the body of one of their own was found. 12 year old, Brooke Bennett, was found on Wednesday, July 1st. near her uncle’s house. Brooke Bennett had gone missing since last Wednesday; last seen with her uncle at a convenience store. A teenage mother who left her newborn in the woods in Montreal has been sentenced to 18 months in detention and another 9 in probation. The teenager, who was 16 at the time of occurrence, pleaded guilty to manslaughter; a step down from the second-degree murder charges. Was this a slap on the wrist or good justice?
